Portuguese SynagogeThe Portuguese Synagogue derives its name from the fact that the majority of the community that built in 1675 were Jews that had fled to The Netherlands from Spain via Portugal. Although the Portuguese Jews enjoyed religious freedom in Holland, the law prohibited that the entrances of a Synagogue be visible. The building remains a bit mysterious because the entrance is so hard to find.
