Westerkerk (Western Church)
The Westerkerk is famous from Anne Frank's book. The house where she stayed in hiding stands almost next to it. In her book she describes how she used to listen to the carillon. The Westerkerk was built as a Protestant church in 1631 and it is the most important Protestant church in The Netherlands. The Amsterdammers adore its tower, with 85m the highest church tower in Amsterdam. Because he lived nearby, Rembrandt van Rijn was buried here. The location of his grave is unknown.
